God is Just 4.

God is Just 4

Another outstanding characteristic of God is His justness. It is a part of His essence. It is the axis by which all of creation is balanced in harmony. Justice is the characteristic of God that deals directly with His fairness in His dealing with humanity. He is impartial with His justice and judgements. Look at the scripture in Matthew 5:45,

“that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

In His justness, He provides the same opportunities to godly and ungodly people. This is because He respects His own spiritual laws. If He were not fair, then humanity, when they stand before Him, could indict Him for not being equitable with the distribution of His judgements.

Justice is equilibrium. It is balance. And God loves it! Isaiah 61:8 says,

For I, the LORD, love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; And I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.”

This is what we see in the Garden of Eden. Balance and symmetry. Adam was in perfect symmetry with God and with creation. Everything was properly balanced on the justice scales of God. Because every living thing’s rights were respected. Wherever you see justice, you see paradise.

It wasn’t until the rights of God, and the rights of Eve were violated that we see broken peace (NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE) where everybody began encroaching on the rights of others. In Genesis 18:19 it says,

“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

This is the heart of God. He was getting ready to judge the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, and He appealed to the heavenly court, the highest appellate court, to determine if He would brief Abraham on His judgement against Sodom and Gomorrah. In this, we see the decision-making process of God. He decided to brief Abraham on His intentions because Abraham would do “what is right and just”. This is how important justness is to God. Part of the criteria of His selection of us to carry out His will is if we will be just in our deeds – creating balance and peace by respecting the intrinsic rights of others.

When we don’t have the proper belief system about God as just, we enter into pride. We begin to take matters in our own hands, and try to balance the scales of justice that are tipped against us. We take on fights that we can’t win because we can’t manifest the faith required to stay patient until the Lord avenges us and rights the wrongs perpetrated against us. In the process, we callus ourselves, and become defensive, overly sensitive, and hyper-aggressive in our attitude towards others. Check out this scripture in Romans 12:19,

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”

The wrath of God is a part of His justness toward you, against those that violate your rights, and tip the scales against you. Another scripture of note is, Proverbs 11:1,

“The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.”

God HATES injustice. This scripture speaks to scales that are rigged – when you thought you were getting a fair opportunity, but the scale was altered.

This happens in life all the time. You thought the government was fair, but the scale was rigged. You thought the judicial system was fair, but the scale was rigged. You were promised that everyone had to go through the same process on the job to get promoted, but you realized that for you, the criteria were different. You thought the loan process, or admission process was equitable, until they saw your name and assumed you were a minority. You saw the person the pillaged from you – robbed you of yourself – wounded you at your core seem to move on with their lives with no problem, leaving you to pick up the pieces. What is created is a disruption of peace within us. Imbalances in our physical, emotional, and psychological bodies. Emotionally temperamental. Emotionally out of control. I come against Injustices and dishonest scales. God will avenge. His wrath is just in these instances.

GOD IS ABOUT TO PUT SOMETHING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SCALE! When people are taken advantage of, plundered, pillaged, stolen from, held back, deceived under false pretenses…The God of Justice comes to right the wrong. Because of what’s been done against you, He does something FOR YOU to balance the dishonest scales.

Numbers 14:18 says,

“The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

God’s justness assures that good overcomes evil. It assures that God’s ultimate purpose will be accomplished in your life. It assures that your faithfulness will pay off. It assures that your patience and agape love will be rewarded. But. You. Must. Believe. That. He. Is. Just. And that, despite how long it may seem, that He will right every wrong against you. Even if it means that it will be generations later. He will balance the scales.
